William Ebenezer Corning

Founders Cemetery, Marker #17 and foot marker W.E.C.

(~1835-1857)

William was born about 1835 and died 2 March 1857 at the age of 21. We don’t know the cause of death or much about him.

One ancestor of William’s may have been William Knowlton, whose grave marker in Shelburne is among the earliest for any English settler in Nova Scotia, it simply reads “William Knowlton, 1632.”

The Cornings come from a line of Mayflower descendants from the Allerton, Billington, Howland, Tilley and Warren Pilgrim families. The anantafel below is for William Ebenezer. Corning, and would be similar for his father Ebenezer, except of course the Raymond pieces.

More information about William and his parents may be found in the Old Stones Family Group Sheet Index.

Please leave a comment if you have information about him, particularly his cause of death

[1] An ahnentafel (ancestor table) is a family tree without a chart. #1 is the source person, #2 is that person’s father, whose father is #4. To follow the father’s direct paternal ancestry double the number each time to #8, 16, 32 etc. The mother of the source person is #3 (the wife is always one number higher than the husband) whose father is #6, whose father is #12, again doubling in the same way as the father’s generations. #7 will be the source person’s her maternal grandmother whose father will be #14, whose father will be #28 and so on. With the exception of the source person, even numbers are male and uneven numbers are female. Uneven numbers usually introduce a new surname into the family tree.

  1. Hi, came across your website looking for info on Sara Reder’s father. I don’t have info on your Corning relative, but as I read your entire 17 pages I found so many familiar names! In our family tree Robert Cushman’s grand-daughter Hannah Cushman married a Trask, and my husband’s grandmother, Marion Trask lived at 12 Cressy St., Beverly, MA for about 70 years in a house built by a Batchelder! It’s one of those “Historic” homes. Her father, Edgar Trask was from Yarborough & Digby, N.S., and his father Freeman Trask and his father etc. were buried in Chebogue cemetery. I’m sure they knew each other in those days long ago. Hope someone can give you info on your Corning relative. I’m sure my husband is your relative, cousins removed. Sincerely, Mary Helen LaPointe PS That Batchelder home’s photos, inside and out, are online.
