Jesse Shaw

Free Will Baptist Cemetery, Marker #14

(1828 – 1859)

Jesse’s Father was Nathan Shaw, and his Grandfather was Zebina Shaw who married Elizabeth Brown, Chegoggin (18 July 1793) the daughter of James Brown. Elizabeth Brown is a descendant of William Knowlton, who has one of the oldest grave markers in Nova Scotia, having died here in 1632. The story of what William was doing in Nova Scotia and how his family then moved, soon after his death, to Massachusetts is a fascinating one.
Zebina  (b 1772) was the son of Moses Shaw who married Anna Phinney from Barnstable Mass. Moses Shaw was an early settler of Granville, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia. Jesse’s Mother was Lydia Parry Shaw, who was the daughter of Cyrus Parry (son of John – a grantee who arrived in Yarmouth from Beverly Mass. before June 1764)  and who married Sophia Flint (12 Jan 1819) (daughter of David Flint).

Jesse Shaw was a Master Mariner who lived at number 3190 Highway 1, Port Maitland – a home he had built just a year or so before his death.

Information about his marriage, parents and children may be found in the Old Stones Family Group Sheet Index.
