Calvinist Baptist Cemetery, Marker #3

(~1825-1870)

Aaron was born in Tusket about 1825 and died in Maitland (now Port Maitland) of liver cancer on 18 or 25 July 1870. There is a discrepancy between his grave marker which says he died 18 July at the age of 45 and his death record which says he died 25 July at the age of 44. A farmer, he was the son of David and Johannah (Spinney) Jeffery. Robert Jeffery, who is buried in the Free Will Baptist Cemetery, is probably a brother.

In 1846 Aaron married Mercy Anne Goudey who is buried near him and named on the same grave marker under the name of Porter, as she married Hazadiah Porter after Aaron’s death. Hazadiah is buried in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Mercy Anne and Aaron had no known children; however, the informant on Aaron’s death record was Ann Jeffery. Was she a daughter or did Mercy Anne go by the name of Ann?
