Founders Cemetery, Marker #51
(~1841 – 1857)
Elizabeth was born about 1841 (died age 16) and died 22 November 1857.
Elizabeth’s father was William Brown, who married Rhoda Atwood (daughter of Knowles Atwood) and the couple lived for a time in Barrington, Nova Scotia. William’s grandfather Charles was a native of Londonderry, Ireland who moved to New York City as a young man. He came to Halifax with the Loyalists, and quickly removed to Barrington where he married and later died in 1809.
After Charles’ death, the married couple of William and Rhoda moved to Lake George, Yarmouth County, and were most likely living there when Elizabeth died at the age of 16. Elizabeth had a brother William who married Margaret Porter (daughter of Josiah Porter) at Beaver River on 9 December, 1848.
Both William and Margaret are buried in the Lake George cemetery.
Elizabeth was a probable Mayflower descendant, in the Stephen Hopkins line.
Some Information about Elizabeth may be found in the Old Stones Family Group Sheet Index.

[1] An ahnentafel (ancestor table) is a family tree without a chart. #1 is the source person, #2 is that person’s father, whose father is #4. To follow the father’s direct paternal ancestry double the number each time to #8, 16, 32 etc. The mother of the source person is #3 (the wife is always one number higher than the husband) whose father is #6, whose father is #12, again doubling in the same way as the father’s generations. #7 will be the source person’s her maternal grandmother whose father will be #14, whose father will be #28 and so on. With the exception of the source person, even numbers are male and uneven numbers are female. Uneven numbers usually introduce a new surname into the family tree.
