Raymond, Susan A.D.

Susan Antoinette D Raymond

Founders Cemetery, Marker #46

(1841-1843)

Susan was born in Yarmouth Township about Dec 1841 and died 21 May 1843 at the age of 1 year 6 months from which her birth date is calculated. She was the sixth of ten children of William Stephens Raymond and Eunice Landers who are buried in the Calvinist Baptist Cemetery. Also buried there are two sisters, Joanna Dane (Raymond) Crosby and Eunice E (Raymond) Besser, and a brother Melvin Charles Raymond. Susan would likely have been buried there as well; however, the Calvinist Baptist Cemetery did not exist at the time of her death.

Susan is a Mayflower descendant, being descended, through her father, from Mayflower passengers, Isaac Allerton, John Billington, John Howland, John Tilley and Richard Warren.

One of Susan’s ancestors, through her mother, may have been William Knowlton, whose grave marker in Shelburne is among the earliest for any English settler in Nova Scotia—it simply reads “William Knowlton, 1632”.

More about Susan, her parents and siblings will be found in the Old Stones Family Group Sheet Index.

Please leave a comment if you have any additional information about Susan, particularly about the cause of her death as an infant.
