Calvinist Baptist Cemetery, Marker #5

(1822-1872)

Mary was born in Upper Clarence, Annapolis County 2 Sept 1822 and died of “inflammation of the lungs” in Beaver River 13 Feb 1872, the daughter of Silas and Mary (Roach) Chute. She married 25 Dec 1843 Joseph Robbins Raymond who was born in Beaver River 21 July 1823 and died 24 Sept 1892. His burial place is not known. A merchant in Meteghan River, Joseph was the son of Jonathan and Elizabeth (Robbins) Raymond and a brother of William Stephens Raymond who is buried nearby in the Calvinist Baptist Cemetery.

Joseph and Mary had nine children, six of whom are buried in the Calvinist Baptist Cemetery. Three children (William, Phoebe and Delilah) are named on the same grave marker as their mother. Three other sons (Abel, Herbert and Silas) are named on a marker nearby. Seven months following Mary’s death Joseph married a widow, Zilpha (Kinney) Newcomb, and had three more children.
